When cleaning a mattress, the question is not only how to properly treat unpleasant stains and dirt, but also how to keep the mattresses in good condition.

There are a few simple rules that will help us enjoy a clean and comfortable mattress for longer.

Airing

It is important to air out your mattress at least once a year. Preferably at low temperatures (cold weather) and then for 30 minutes at room temperature in an upright position.

Mites are the most common contaminants that should not be underestimated. Small arachnids are usually not dangerous, but their droppings cause allergies and skin irritation in many people. For this reason, mattresses should be aired out at least once a year. Ideally, a time with lower temperatures is chosen to repel the heat-loving mites.

How is the mattress aired?

The mattress is placed near a wide-open window and aired for several hours. To prevent it from absorbing moisture, it is left at room temperature after airing before being placed on the bed.

Vacuuming

It is advisable to clean the mattress once a month with a vacuum cleaner or dab it with a carpet attachment. For stains, you can use a special mattress cleaner.

Disinfect with baking soda

Baking soda is a good choice for disinfecting. Simply sprinkle the baking soda on the mattress and remove it with a vacuum cleaner after a few hours. Microbes and bacteria can get on our mattresses for various reasons. Bacterial contamination occurs due to diseases, blood or urine and in this case it is necessary to take disinfecting measures.

A simple method of cleaning is to treat it with soda – soda is spread evenly on the mattress and after a few hours of exposure, it is removed with a vacuum cleaner. Soda removes stains, yellowing, and odors. For heavier stains, you can dissolve soda and water and treat the stained areas with the resulting solution using a brush. This is one of the most effective methods of cleaning the mattress.

Turn the mattress periodically

To protect the mattress from mold, you should turn it periodically. Therefore, the bedroom must be aired every day for at least half an hour to ensure adequate air circulation.

Use a mattress protector

It is advisable to buy mattresses with a washable cover. It is recommended to use washable protectors to protect the mattress from stains and dirt.
